In Design and Technology the children have been learning about ‘Structures’. They have investigated a range of different structures including chairs, bridges, buildings and towers. The children have learned how structures need to be strong and stable so they don’t fall over.

In Year 1 the children were set the challenge of designing and making a Christmas chair for an elf. The children focused on joining skills and how to make a ‘flange’ as a joining technique.

In Year 2 the children were set the challenge of designing and making a tall tower/sign for our  School entrance or the new Hive in our Forest School garden. The children focused on different joining techniques including a ‘flange’ and a ‘L brace’ and also learned that triangles are strong shapes in constructing structures.

Here are some examples of all the brilliant DT work the children have created in school this week!
