The Year 1 children loved our visit from the History van today. The children were immersed in what life was like around 100 years ago when our school was built in 1910.
The children explored daily household chores from the past. They used a ‘posher’ and a ‘dolly’ to wash the clothes. It was hard work getting all the stains out with the scrubbing boards! They had a big pile of ironing to do and had to make sure everything was folded neatly.
The children looked at different technology from the past including, radio’s, telephones and cameras. They played games like skittles, skipping and cup and ball.
In the afternoon we discussed the differences/similarities between the past and present. Children were asked to think about if they would have liked to have lived in the past with all the chores the children had to do. They also thought about all the toys and technology they wouldn’t have had 100 years ago.
